Chumash Tribe saves city fireworks with $20K donation
The July 4 fireworks celebration in Lompoc, California, will go on thanks to a $20,000 donation from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.

The city council eliminated funding for the fireworks in 2009. But supporters have been raising donations so the city could keep it going.

“The 4th of July Fireworks show is an important event for the city of Lompoc and its community members,” Chairman Vincenta Armenta said in a statement quoted by The Santa Maria Times. “We’re pleased to provide the funding needed to keep the long-standing tradition of the fireworks show in Lompoc.”
