The 8th annual Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair began on Monday. The event is being held at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Over 600 youth from grades prekindergartners through 12th are registered. "It’s a very unique event,” coordinator Candessa Tehee Morgan told The Oklahoman. "It’s the only Native American language fair of its kind in the country right now, and it’s one of the largest Native American youth events as well.” On Monday, the prekindergartners through fifth-graders showed off their language skills. Niigan Sunray, a third-grader, won the individual spoken language contest for sharing a migration story in Choctaw. The sixth- through 12-grade students compete today. Get the Story:
