Viejas Band wins injunction to block reservoir at sacred site
The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians won a restraining order that prevents the Padre Dam Municipal Water District in California from further work at a sacred site.

The tribe went to court to protect a recently-unearthed Kumeyaay burial and ceremonial ground. Ancestors and artifacts have been discovered at the site.

“This site is sacred to our people, and it is culturally and historically significant for all residents of San Diego County and southern California," Chairman Bobby L. Barrett said in a press release.

A hearing on June 25 will address a permanent injunction.
