Former Rosebud Sioux council member pleads guilty to charge
A former leader of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation of a minor.

Valandra was arrested over a year ago, in April 2009, for attempting to solicit sex from a minor over the Internet. He was immediately suspended from the council.

After numerous delays, Valandra was set to go to trial in March. That never happened and the defense filed a motion to dismiss the charges due to a lack of a speedy trial.

According to KOTA-TV, federal authorities threatened to take over the case if the state charges were dismissed.
