President Obama to sign Tribal Law and Order Act at White House
President Barack Obama will sign the Tribal Law and Order Act into law at a ceremony at the White House tomorrow.

Congress passed the Tribal Law and Order Act as part of H.R.725 the Indian Arts and Crafts Amendments Act. The bill encourages more prosecution of crime in Indian Country, increases penalties for offenders, reauthorizes key justice programs and establishes consistent protocols to address sexual violence.

"It will strengthen the relationship between the federal government and tribal governments," Obama said when the House passed the bill on July 21. "It will improve our ability to work with tribal communities in the investigation and prosecution of crime, and it authorizes resources for tribes to fight crime more effectively."

The ceremony takes place tomorrow afternoon. Tribal leaders have been invited to attend.
