First Nations man shot and killed by police officer in Washington
John T. Williams, a member of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth First Nation of British Columbia, was shot and killed by a police officer in Seattle, Washington, on Monday.

Williams, 50, was reportedly seen carrying a knife and a piece of wood. The items weren't unusual, considering Williams was a traditional carver.

But an officer shot and killed Williams after he reportedly ignored orders to drop the knife. The Seattle police department is investigating.

"He wasn't feisty, that just wasn't him at all. He would have been the last kind of guy that would have caused any problem," Sister Julie Codd, a friend of Williams, told The Seattle Times.
