Senate Indian Affairs Committee to consider two bills at meeting

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a business meeting tomorrow to consider two bills.

The committee will consider S.675, the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act. The bill extends the policy of self-determination to Native Hawaiians.

The committee also will consider S.676, a fix to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar. The bill ensures that all tribes, regardless of the date of federal recognition, can benefit from the land-into-trust process.

Neither bill has come up for a hearing before the committee.

The business meeting takes place at 2:15pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. It will be followed by a hearing on the 8(a) program at the Small Business Administration.
