South Dakota redistricting committee to head to reservations

Members of South Dakota Legislative Redistricting Committee will visit seven reservations as part of their duties this summer.

The last time the state redrew its districts in 2001, Indian voters filed three lawsuits. The 15-member committee hopes to avoid some of the pitfalls by learning more about each reservation.

Native Americans make up nearly 9 percent of the state's population.
