Unofficial results from election for Mississippi Choctaw chief

Members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians went to the polls on Tuesday to choose a miko, or chief.

Incumbent Beasley Denson was leading the field of eight candidates, according to unofficial results. But a run-off is likely because he hasn't received 50 percent of the vote plus one.

Phyliss J. Anderson, who wants to be the first woman to lead the tribe, was running second, according to the unofficial results. Absentee ballots have not been counted.

Voters also elected council members.
