Navajo Nation erases its budget deficit with Peabody settlement

The Navajo Nation cleared a $23 million budget deficit thanks to a settlement with Peabody
Energy.
The tribe received an immediate $50 million payment through the settlement. That enabled the tribe to eliminate the deficit earlier than anticipated.
The tribe settled the lawsuit after saying it had been cheated out of $600 million in coal royalties.
