Klamath Tribes celebrate 25th birthday of federal restoration

The Klamath Tribes of Oregon are celebrating the 25th anniversary of federal restoration.

The tribes were terminated in 1954. They were restored to recognition in August 1986 but lost hundreds of thousands of acres of land.

"Restoration restored us to federal recognition, but we're still healing," former chairman Chuck Kimbol, 77, told The Klamath Falls Herald and News.

The tribe kicks off a four-day celebration today.
