New Mexico still taking claims for Indian veterans tax refunds

The state of New Mexico is still taking claims from Indian veterans who wrongly paid income taxes while they were serving in the military.

So far, $825,000 has been paid to Indian veterans who lived in Indian Country between between 1977 and 2004. Another $375,00 is available, with the total amount of refunds capped at $1.2 million by state law.

Indian veterans are urged to contact the Department of Veterans' Services. Widows and dependents are also eligible.
