The Wyoming Legislature’s Select Committee on Tribal Relations is proposing a bill to allow Bureau of Indian Affairs police officers to enforce state traffic laws.

BIA officers will be able to cite non-Indians for traffic violations on the Wind River Reservation. Cases will be handled in state court.

"It shouldn't be possible for example for a non-native to feel like they can never get arrested for speeding and feel comfortable going across the reservation at 90 miles per hour," State Sen. Cale Case (R), the co-chairman of the committee, told KCWY13.

Currently, BIA police must call state or local police if non-Indians are involved in traffic violations.
