Developer continues to oppose Hualapai Tribe's jurisdiction

The non-Indian developer of the Grand Canyon Skywalk will continue to fight the jurisdiction of the Hualapai Tribe of Arizona, an attorney said.

David Jin entered into a relationship with the tribe to build and operate the Grand Canyon tourist attraction, which has reportedly drawn 1.8 million people to the reservation since 2007. But the tribe seized the business after claiming Jin failed to live up to his end of the deal.

"Our business is being destroyed by a handful of self-interested [tribal] government officials who are stealing our business and trampling our rights" Troy Eid, a former U.S. Attorney who represents Jin, told The Wall Street Journal.

A federal judge ruled that Jin must exhaust his tribal court remedies before turning to the federal court system. An appeal is planned, Eid said.
