Vandals attempted to steal big Indian statue on Seneca Nation

Vandals attempted to steal an iconic Indian statue from a business on the Seneca Nation in New York.

Cyrus Schindler, the owner of the Big Indian Smoke Shop, was told that high school students were behind the incident. The attempted thieves toppled the 28-foot-tall fiberglass statue, which weighs more than 1,000 pounds and was kept behind a gate on the Cattaraugus Reservation.

"I don't want to ruin a kid's life over this," Schindler told The Buffalo News. "I want them to understand [what they did was wrong]."

The statue was left in a ditch alongside the New York Thruway.
