Editorial: It's here already-the annual Santa Fe Indian Market

"Santa Fe summers have a rhythm of their own — a lazy Memorial Day weekend and quiet June, followed by a busy July with the opening of The Santa Fe Opera and two of our famous markets. Then, come August, it’s time for Santa Fe Indian Market, the world-famous collision of art, culture and people. It’s no exaggeration to say that Indian Market marks the high point of a Santa Fe summer. These are days when hotels are full, restaurants are packed and people crowd the downtown streets. The creative energy lifts up the entire city, not to mention fuels our economy.

Today, inside the Sunday paper, you’ll find The New Mexican’s annual Indian Market magazine. The official guide to market, this jam-packed publication introduces both the first-time and veteran market-goer to artists and the art — it’s the only magazine with the official booth guide and map, helping you find your favorites easily. Creative director Deborah Villa and wordsmith Pat West-Barker are responsible for producing a magazine that takes the reader behind the scenes into the creative process itself, beginning with a stunning cover (photography by Kitty Leaken) of potter Jody Naranjo."
