The Navajo Nation is seeing a dramatic rise in new HIV/AIDS cases.

A report from the Indian Health Service, the Navajo Nation Health Education Program, and the Navajo AIDS Network said 40 new cases were diagnosed last year. That's up from 35 in 2010 and quadruple the number in the mid-1990s.

“We haven't reached that leveling off point yet,” Philene Herrera, the manager of the Navajo Nation Health Education Program, told The Farmington Daily Times.

The Navajo Nation Council passed the Navajo Nation HIV/AIDS Act last year to help address the issue.
