Former students at Native day schools seek $15B with lawsuit

Former students at Native day schools are seeking $15 billion in compensation from the Canadian government. A lawsuit alleges the students were subject to abuse and loss of culture at day schools across the nation. It's different from the residential school settlement that the government has implemented. “The Canadian public has to realize that killing the Indian in the child didn’t just happen at residential school,” attorney Joan Jack told The Vancouver Sun. Some former students have recently made specific allegations of abuse at a day school in British Columbia.
