Hopi Tribe calls for Native American cabinet position in Arizona

The Hopi Tribe supports the creation of a cabinet position for Native American affairs in Arizona.

Chairman LeRoy Shingoitewa endorsed the proposal at the 18th annual Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day. He said it will help the state and tribes form a better relationship.

"If you want the state to grow, you need to work with us on partnerships," Shingoitewa told lawmakers, The Navajo-Hopi Observer reported.

Sen. Jack Jackson Jr. (D) is sponsoring a bill to create the position.
