Delaware Tribe looking to relocate headquarters to Kansas

The Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma is looking to relocate to Kansas.

The tribe had a reservation in Kansas before being forced to move to Oklahoma in the 1800s. "We're still looking for a property," former chief Dee Ketchum, who's now working as a consultant for the tribe, told The Leavenworth Times.

The Delawares lost their federal recognition under litigation filed by the Cherokee Nation. Federal status was restored in 2009 but Ketchum said the tribe can't do much in Oklahoma due to the presence of the much-larger Cherokee Nation.
