Tlingit-Haida Tribes leader Ed Thomas won't seek reelection

Ed Thomas, the president of the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, said he won't run for re-election in 2014.

Thomas said he wants to continue serving the Tlingit and Haida in other capacities. He's a member of the Sealaska board of directors and is active in the National Congress of American Indians and the Alaska Federation of Natives.

Thomas was first elected president in 1984. He held the post until 2007, when he unexpectedly resigned, only to return in 2010.
