CDC finds 65 percent increase in Native American suicide rate

The suicide rate among Native American adults grew 65.2 percent in the past decade, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a new report. The rate of suicide among American Indians and Alaska Natives ages 35-64 was 11.2 per 100,000 in 1990. It grew to 18.5 percent in 2010, the CDC said, the largest increase of any racial or ethnic group in the U.S. The report did not examine the reasons for the increase. But overall, more older Americans are committing suicide, according to the CDC.
