Coat Drive to benefit Pine Ridge

RAPID CITY – The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology (SDSMT) will be helping those who are in need on a local reservation to keep warm this holiday season.

Student groups Circle K and the Rotaract Club at SDSMT are partnering with the American Advertising Federation-Black Hills (AAF-BH) and students at Black Hills State University and the University Center Rapid City to launch AAF-Black Hills’ first-ever “Warm Up” Coat Drive.

The event kicked off on Nov. 6 and will be running through Saturday, Nov. 30. The groups will collect adult- and child-sized coats from the community, both new and gently used, to be delivered to those in need of a warm coat on the Pine Ridge reservation.

Rapid City collection points will be at the Surbeck Center on the SDSMT campus at 501 E. St. Joseph St.; Simpsons Printing, 2410 South Plaza Drive; Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson, & Ashmore, LLP, 506 Sixth Street; and the University Center Rapid City, 4300 Cheyenne Blvd.

The Spearfish collection point will be at Black Hills State University, 1200 University Blvd.

Circle K International is an organization devoted to involving college and university students in campus and community service while developing quality leaders and citizens.

Rotaract is an international program for adults ages 18 to 30 who want to make a difference. It was founded in 1968 by Rotary International, and association of clubs made up of service-minded business and professional leaders. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is the first Rotaract Club in District 5610. SDSMT Rotaract Club provides service not only to the Rapid City community, but internationally as well. SDSMT Rotaract Club also develops member leadership and professional qualities for an accelerated future in career and continued service.

Founded in 1885, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is a science and engineering research university located in Rapid City, S.D., offering bachelors, master’s and doctoral degrees.

Black Hills State University in Spearfish is a master’s level university that promotes excellence in teaching and learning; supports research, creative and scholarly activities and provides service to the state, region, nation and global community.
