Senate Indian Affairs Committee sets hearing on irrigation projects

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing next week on irrigation projects in Indian Country.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs manages 15 revenue generating irrigation projects, provides oversight of three water power projects and manages safety at 131 dams. A 2006 report from the Government Accountability Office found an $850 million maintenance backlog in the system.

The hearing takes place Wednesday, September 10, at 2:30pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. A witness list hasn't been published online.
