One member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming was murdered and another was seriously injured after they were shot in their sleep on Saturday by a man whom authorities say intentionally wanted to kill homeless people.

Stallone Trosper was killed as he slept in a detoxification center in Riverton. He died at the scene after being shot once in the head, according to news reports.

James “Sonny” Goggles, Jr. was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery in Riverton then airlifted to Casper for further treatment, County 10 News reported. He also was shot once in the head but his current condition isn't known.

Roy Clyde, 32, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He allegedly told authorities he went to Riverton with the intention of killin homeless people.

When he couldn't find anyone in a park, he went to the Center of Hope detoxification center. That's where he allegedly shot Trosper and Goggles as they slept.

But even though both victims are tribal members, authorities said the crime wasn't motivated by race. Clyde, who is non-Indian, was a city parks employee who was upset by the presence of homeless people in Riverton.

"He specifically indicated that if he had encountered white people meeting his criteria, he would have killed them as well," a detective wrote in an affidavit that was filed in court, County 10 reported.

Trosper's age was not reported but he is around 29 or 30 years old, based on a recent court document. His Facebook page doesn't offer much information about his life or his family but is filled with images of inspirational quotes.

Goggles' age hasn't been reported either. It's not clear whether he knew Trosper.

Riverton lies within the original boundaries of the Wind River Reservation, home to the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribe. State and local officials claim the city is no longer Indian Country, an issue that is the subject of pending litigation in federal court.
