The Lummi Nation of Washington welcomed approval of a land-into-trust application.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs agreed to place 84 acres in trust. The land is adjacent to an 80-acre site that was acquired in 2013, The Bellingham Herald reported.

With both parcels in trust, the tribe will discuss what to do with the land. “Whatever is decided, the planning process will be responsible and deliberate," Chairman Tim Ballew II told the paper.

The 164 acres are located near a major interstate.
