JULY 5, 2000 A survey conducted by Angus Reid indicates that 57 percent of respondents said tax exemptions for Native people as instituted by the Indian Status Act should be terminated. Only 25 percent said aboriginals have a right to self-government. 67 percent believe land claims should be settled reasonably. The survey was conducted on 1,200 citizens throughout Canada.
