Lori Watlament is a law-enforcement officer for the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission and has jurisdiction on tribal and federal land in the Columbia Gorge region in Washington and Oregon. She is the only officer whose sole function is to protect historic and prehistoric cultural resources.

Watlamet trains officers, archaeologists and others how to identify, investigate and prosecute archaeological crimes. She was named Historic Officer's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Education by the state of Washington i 2000 and Conservation Officer of the Year by the national Native American Fish and Wildlife Society for 2000.

Around the country, cultural sites are not only the focus of archaeological crimes but battles between the government, business, environmental and conservation groups, and every day citizens.
