The Omaha Tribe filed a motion yesterday to delay payment to Missouri River Services (MRS) until the US 8th Circuit Court of Appeals considers the Omaha Nation's appeal of a recent federal district court decision in favor of MRS. When federal legislation limited high stakes gaming in 1988, the tribe decided to open a high-stakes facility on land in Iowa with a new operator. MRS, the tribes' former casino operator in Nebraska, contested that they had exclusive rights to operate all Omaha gaming facilities. After arbitration, the Omaha Nation was ordered to pay the settlement to MRS, currently under appeal by the tribe in federal court. The Iowa gaming operation currently makes $50,000 per month to fund programs of the tribe; MRS is considering garnishing profits from the Iowa gaming operation to pay the settlement. Get the Story:
