Gaming compact extended

MAY 1, 2000

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation and the State of Montana have extended their gaming compact. The compact was due to expire early this month.

There are no changes in the new interim compact from the last one, except for a November deadline for the tribes and the state to negotiate over Class III gaming. If an agreement cannot be reached over Class III gaming, mostly video gaming, the tribe will shut down those particular operations.

The tribes and the state also divided jurisdiction over gaming on the reservation. The tribes retain authority over Indian operations, the state over non-Indian.
