AUGUST 16, 2000

The Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary Area Commission will send a report commenting on the negative enviromental impact of a proposed casino in Hudson, Wisconsin, to the Department of Interior.

Three Ojibwe tribes are proposing a casino in Hudson, but face opposition from other gaming tribes and local groups. The Interior is holding a 30-day comment period on the casino.

Only enviromental impact questions are allowed under the comment period, due to a settlement won by the Lac Courte Oreilles, Red Cliff, and Mole Lake Ojibwe bands. They had accused the Interior of acting improperly in denying their proposal in 1995.
