MAY 31, 2000

Are you a Cherokee woman between the ages of 18 and 24, a high school graduate, and at least 1/4 Cherokee? If so, the Cherokee Nation wants you to participate in the Miss Cherokee 2000 contest to be held August 5th at Northeastern State University Fine Arts Auditorium in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

Contestants are judged on an essay, a preliminary interview, evening and traditional Cherokee dress, talent, and a pageant interview. Contestants must also have never been married, single, and live within the 14-county area of the tribe.

Last year's winner, Janelle Adair, received a $2,000 scholarship from the tribe. Miss Cherokee serves as a goodwill ambassador for the Cherokee Nation.
