MAY 1, 2001 Embattled former Prairie Band Potawatomi Chairwoman Mamie Rupnicki has been voted out of the Haskell Indian Nations University Board of Regents by the school's council of Kansas tribes. According to Nancy Bear, chairwoman of the Kickapoo Tribal Council, Rupnicki was removed by the Four Tribes council because she is no longer a council member of a tribe in the state. She resigned from Chairwoman of the Potawatomi Tribe after allegations of conflict of interest and undue influence were made involving custody of her son. Rupnicki was the regent's president. Jackie Mitchell, who is a member of the Potawatomi council, is Rupnicki's replacement on the Four Tribes council. Get the Story:
