APRIL 25, 2001 Scientists from the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization on Tuesday said the hole in the North Pole's ozone layer appears to have stabilized after years of thinning. They warned, however, the condition may be temporary. The sun is moving into an 11-year term of declining radiation, so production of ozone -- which protects earth and humans from harmful, cancer-causing ultraviolet radiation -- will be at its lowest in 2006. They also said colder winters will cause ozone levels to fall faster. Get the Story:
