JUNE 13, 2001 A proposal made by Anchorage Police Chief Dan Monegan to develop specialized crime investigation units is being welcomed in Alaska. Detectives say the units will enhance better communication among officers. One of the units will focus on sexual assaults, a move welcomed by the group Standing Together Against Rape. There have been a number of rapes, assaults, and murders of Alaska Native women in recent years. The police department has a special committee dedicated to sexual assaults. Get the Story:
