Tribes fight gaming bill

OCTOBER 9, 2000

Tribes in California are once again fighting a bill that would outlaw Internet gaming because they say it makes certain forms of gaming operated at Indian casinos illegal.

The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act prohibits all forms of online gaming except parimutuels. But one lawyer says it doesn't affect linked, progressive slot machines or satellite bingo.

The was earlier proposed by Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-Va), who recently revived it in the House. A companion bill passed the Senate last year.
