Sharon Blackwell, deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, said she was impressed with a regional conference held in Aberdeen, South Dakota, this week.

The Great Plains Regional Tribal/Federal Conference was held from Tuesday to Thursday. About 200 participated and Blackwell said other regional BIA agencies should consider holding them.

Blackwell also said consultation was important to help guarantee the BIA services tribes effectively.

Blackwell is a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and is also Muscogee.
