Iowa county says it will evict Meskwaki rivals
Monday, August 18, 2003

Authorities in Tama County, Iowa, say they will enforce Meskwaki tribal law and evict a rival faction from tribal offices.

Homer Bear Jr. heads a council that is not recognized by the federal government. His supporters have control of the tribal center while the casino remains closed.

The recognized council, led by Alex Walker Jr., has ordered Bear's group to leave.
