Right whale find encourages scientists

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2001 Research published in today's issue of Science reports the discovery of five North Pacific right whales feeding in a new area of the Bering Sea. Scientists believe the find can help restore the whale's numbers. Only about 100 to 200 are believed to exist. The whale was decimated by commercial fishing which ended in the 1960s. A relative, the North Atlantic right whale, is down to about 300. Get the Story:
