A lawsuit has been filed in New Mexico state court on behalf of a Navajo man alleges he was unfairly detained for several days at a detoxification center near the Navajo Reservation.

The suit was filed against the Na'Nizhoozhi Center Inc. in Gallup, New Mexico. An attorney representing Lewison Watchman wants the suit to become a class action and each plaintiff paid $5,000 a day for being held at the center.

Watchman filed a similar lawsuit against the city of Gallup and settled for $20,000 for being held at NCI for four days against his wishes. According to The Gallup Independent, the claim was filed in federal court in late 2000.
