OCTOBER 11, 2000

Tribes in the Northwest will face Lewis and Clark once again, but this time theya are the ones who are telling their side of the historic early 1800s exploration.

The Nex Perce Tribe of Idaho is hosting the Gathering of the Tribes from the Lewis and Clark Trail this week in Lapwai. The tribe saved the expedition from starvation during one winter.

The tribe and others are preparing for the bicentennial celebration of the expedition. The tour came into contact with some 48 tribes after departing from St. Louis.

The tribe is participating in the bicentennial to make sure they get to tell their side of the story. They also want other tribes to get involved in the preparations.
