APRIL 5, 2001 Although it comes as no surprise to no one, Secretary of Interior Gale Norton and other members of the Bush administration are targeting millions of acres of federal land, some of it currently off-limits to development, for oil and gas drilling. USA Today reports today that it has obtained a draft document urging development of wilderness areas, forest lands, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Norton and President George W. Bush have been pushing development of public lands, including areas of national monuments, for weeks. Get the Draft Document:
