Prairie dog colony to be vacuumed

JUNE 14, 2001

An entire colony of prairie dogs in Colorado is about to be vacuumed and shipped to Arizona, where they will serve as meals to the endangered black-footed ferret.

About 500 dogs will be vacuumed said a spokesperson for Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser owns the land on which the colony sits and is developing it, so the dogs need to be moved.

The black-footed ferret is the most endangered animal in North America. It feasts solely on prairie dogs.

The Denver Post does not report if it asked Kaiser what type of vacuum will be used.

The Arizona Game & Fish Department will be receiving the dogs.
