The House this week is considering a number of energy proposals as President Bush and Republican lawmakers attempt to push his goals through Congress.

Among the proposals is a bill to authorize exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska. The administration believes the area contains vast oil and natural gas resources and needs Congressional approval to open the area up to exploration.

If proven feasible, Congress would then approve full-scale development. Secretary of Interior Gale Norton today will hold a press confernce with Rep. W.J. "Billy" Tauzin (R-La.), the House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman, to push Arctic drilling.

The House Resources Committee will hold a hearing today on Arctic drilling, during which Norton will testify. The hearing begins at 10 AM EDT and can be heard via the Internet on the committee's web site.
