Connecticut State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has asked for a six-month extention to the public comment period on two Pequot tribes, partly because he said Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Kenneth Reels and Narragansett representative John Brown stole time away from the state.

During the meeting, assistant Attorney General Daniel Schaefer attempted to silence Brown twice, saying he was cutting into their questions. The Department of Interior allowed Brown to speak, as the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is an interested party.

The BIA was unable to answer all of the questions posed by the state during a two-day meeting held August 8 and 9 discussing the federal recognition petitions of the Eastern Pequot and Paucatuck Eastern Pequot tribes. The state had submitted a 48-page document consisting of questions on the tribe's petitions.

Blumenthal also said the state needs more time to comment because the BIA hasn't completed all of the Freedom of Information Act requests made by the state.
