THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2001 The Crow Tribe of Montana has ordered two dissident members arrested for a peaceful takeover of tribal headquarters earlier this week, with other warrants expected to be issued soon. The tribe would not release names but said they were key to the occupation. The disclosure came at a press conference the tribe and a regional Bureau of Indian Affairs official held to discuss resolution of an ongoing dispute over changes made to the tribe's constitution. According to Bill Benjamin, Deputy Regional Director for the Rocky Mountain Region, Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb is getting involved. Benjamain said he spoke to McCaleb on Wednesday and McCaleb agreed to resolve problems as soon as possible. McCaleb was leaving the National Congress of American Indians convention in Spokane, Washington, yesterday. Meanwhile, dissident tribal members say they might launch a class action suit against the Department of Interior if things don't go their way. Get the Story:
