FEBRUARY 6, 2001

Texas State Representative Juan Hinojosa. chairman of the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, is co-sponsoring a bill that would ensure the legality of gaming operations by the state's three tribes.

The bill would apply to gaming operations of the Ysleta del Sur Tigua Tribe, the Kickapoo Tribe, and the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe. The Tigua Tribe's Speaking Rock Casino has been targeted for shutdown by the state and a lawsuit is pending.

US District Judge Harry Lee Hudspeth has ordered a July 24 trial date for the lawsuit.
