Tribes in Nebraska and officials from Nebraska and Iowa plan on meeting to discuss a potential solution to a debate over the collection of gasoline taxes on reservations.

The response comes after the states were investigating whether the tribes could sell gas at reservation businesses without collecting state tax. The Winnebago Tribe last fall began charging its own tribal tax instead of the state's.

But the states have dropped their investigation in order to talk about the issue. The Nebraska and Iowa legislatures are considering bills to authorize a settlement.
