Groups of Seneca Nation tribal members are organizing to defeat a gaming compact leaders have proposed with the state of New York.

They say the compact will lead to an erosion of the tribe's sovereignty. Intsead, they want the tribe to continue operating is Class II games, which include high-stakes bingo and video slot machines.

The tribe is set to hold a referendum August 7 to approve the casino. Since negotiations are being held up by Democrats in the State Assembly, the referendum may be delayed.
