Assembly of First Nations re-elects Fontaine


Phil Fontaine easily won re-election as chief of the Assembly of First Nations on Wednesday.

Fontaine won almost 76 percent of the vote after just one round of balloting. Challenger Bill Wilson had 23 percent.

Fontaine said he would work to restoring the $5 billion pledge in funding from the Canadian government. He said it was a cost-effective plan to improving the health, education and welfare of Native people.

AFN is meeting in Vancouver this week.
